'Merlin', after A. Beardsley. ATC, pen and in wash. For a project on wetcanvas at http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1312931
Some early sources, such as poet Geoffrey of Monmouth, c. 1150, imagined Merlin as a seer or prophet, rather than the wizard he has become in recent times. It seems Beardsley has followed this tradition, giving Merlin more the look of a religious seer rather than a wizard type robe and flowing beard.
I have enjoyed watching the recent TV series of 'Merlin' from BBC, although this tells the story of Merlin as a boy wizard working with ancient magic spells.
