A trois crayons

'A trois crayons'

1. study-copy of Watteau,' head of female', 6 by 8 ins approx., Ingres pastel paper
2. 'Woman wearing jewellery', 6 by 8 ins approx., Ingres pastel paper. Inspired by vintage photo.

Two pastel-chalk drawings using the 3 crayon technique favoured by old masters, such as Rubens, Watteau and Rembrandt.  The 3 colours used are sanguin (an earth red), black and white. You can use conte, Pitt charcoal pencils or soft pastels for this method.

These studies were for a project in wetcanvas, see http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1315847

I enjoyed this technique a lot.
