Serval cat.

 Collage papers and acrylics.

'Nefertiti's cat.'  (Serval cat).  Collage papers and acrylics, 12 by 12 ins, paper.

I was in Egypt for my painting this week (only in imagination).

I had the lady in mind when I started this painting and then the cat crept in to the picture....don't they always?

I realised towards the end of making this artwork that it may be best to use thin papers for collage, such as Deli paper, tissue paper, or rice papers.  I used slightly thicker papers for this mixed media work, and while this is a good technique for showing rough surfaces like animal fur, its not so good for depicting smoother surfaces such as bare skin.  Its too uneven in texture with bumps and dips in the surface.

In future, for my collage pieces, I think I will start with thin papers and then move on to thicker papers if I think I need them.

So I am calling this a learning experience ...and I am happy with that!

WOW December already!

Have a good weekend.

Bye for now,

From June and Susie.

I love your painting, the face and cat, a lot, June. I'm wondering do you use the paper also to the head dress as well. I would like to try something like this...
I'm wishing you and lovely Susie a very good December.
Enjoy the weekend my friends xx
