A few doodles from this week.  First 2 are small and in sketchbooks.

Abstract.

Watercolours, Oil pastels.

'Looking skywards', watercolour and brush pen, on paper, 4 by 6 ins.

'Creature 1'.  Oil pastels, 11 by 15 ins. on paper.

1. 'Looking skywards'

I used Japanese watercolour and a Japanese brush pen, so I am surprised the figures didn't turn out looking Japanese!!

2. 'Creature 1'

The oil pastel abstract was an attempt to get back into OPs.  I used to do a lot of OP work a few years ago, mainly animal portraits.

In this abstract, I was trying a new box of neopastels from Caran d'Ache.    They gave excellent coverage and are not too creamy.  I have some Senneliers and they are a bit too creamy for some effects.  So a combination of the two types may be a good idea in future works.

Oh... a bit of  'happy' news... nothing to do with painting.   I won a box of 7 sets of pearl earrings from The Pearl Company in a give-away on Facebook.  So that was a surprise as I never usually win things!!

OK that's it for this week.

Have a lovely weekend.

Bye for now.

Another colourful doodle animal.

Watercolours.

'Okapi', watercolours, 7.5 by 10 ins., approx.

Practise painting animals in abstract colours.

I painted this animal, the okapi, a relative of the giraffe, from a child's model toy that I have in my collection.   I enjoyed giving her a coat of many colors.  I know its a 'she' because...no antlers, or tufts. The toy was actually realistic in detail and colouring.  So I took artistic  liberties.

Hope you have a nice creative start to the week!!

Bye for now.

Ink drawings from imagination.

Some ink doodle drawings this week.

'What's up there?' ink and pan pastels, 12 ins sq., paper.

'Girl on yellow background,'  ink and watercolours, A5 paper.

I made some cadmium yellow watercolour paint using the binder left over from my previous hand-made vermilion watercolour.  So I tested it out on the background for the girl in photo 2.  The handmade paint is very creamy and delicious.   I think due to the addition of honey.

Here's the link to the recipe I use for making watercolour paint.

make paint

I just found out that you can buy a bottle of watercolour binder ready-made to add to your powdered pigments...i.e. if you don't want to find all the ingredients to make the binder yourself but want to use up some dry pigment.  A bit of a short cut.

Bye for now.
