Using earth colours in watercolour painting.

Sketchbook painting study.

'My hamster in her feed bowl.'  watercolour sketchbook, 8 by 6 ins.

A small sketch of a hamster pet,  from over 20 years ago.  Her name was Georgy.

For this painting, I used the earth colours:  gold ochre, burnt sienna, and  burnt umber. I added vermillion for her dish, with french ultramarine and dioxine purple to mix the dark tones.

This sketch is on inexpensive paper,  so I hope to paint her again - on artist quality watercolour paper.

My favourite watercolour paper is Arches...however, I bought a mixed pack of paper at Christmas, which has lots of different brands to try, and so I may pick a new paper to try out.

Have a great weekend!

Bye.

Fantastic painting of your hamster June.
A mixed selection of papers sounds a great idea to see what one works best.
Have a lovely weekend.
