'Young Lepidopterist,' watercolours, stamping, 11 by 7-5 ins., paper.
I felt like some watercolour painting this week. This portrait is based on an old photo of me as a child. I added the butterflies because, like many children, I loved watching caterpillars and butterflies in our garden.
I used a layer technique, wet on dry, which is time-consuming, as well as patience-testing, as you must wait for each paint layer to dry completely before applying the next. I may try a wet-in-wet technique next week.
The stamping is on the pocket of her jacket.
In other news, Susie had her boosters this week. She was calm for the examination. When we got back home, she wanted to go out again...I guess she loved her trip out in the stroller!

Have a good weekend.
Bye for now!

that is an amazing portrait in watercolor! There is so much detail, color and depth it looks more like an oil painting. Happy PPF- and good to hear Susie is well and enjoying the rides:) Happy PPF!
Nicely done...the light and shade so fine!
Fantastic portrait! Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie

Hello June, your watercolour portrait is so very lovely and it captures the wonder of childhood so well. Happy PPF!
Ok, now I had to look up what lepidopterist means. Never heard of that word :-) Great painting, although the technique doesn't sound like fun. At least to me, since I don't have patience ;-)
Lovely summery self portrait!

What fun to go back and paint yourself as a child! This is inspiring!
June, this portrait of you is fabulous- how adorable!
Oh my to wait for each layer to dry would not suit me as I am very impatient when it comes to my art! I loved/love butterflies as a child as well, and am still in love with them now!
So happy Susi loves her outings- how fun!

What a gorgeous painting! Really love it! I love watercolours, but the drying time can be annoying sometimes. I keep wandering off and get distracted...
