'Grandma and grandpa and the dog', plastered foam core tiles, 4 ins, squared. Mixed media,
Spent the morning doing this quad of the little tiles for 'Art as Allegory' class. It was a fun way to try a combination of mixed media techniques, including Plaster of Paris, gesso, pan pastels, collage, image transfer, stamping, stencilling , and a final coat of wax encaustic.
Story behind the art works.
'Grandma and grandpa and the dog',
Every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday, my grandma, my dog and I would take a picnic and walk up 3 hills to meet my grandpa who had walked along the road to meet us. He was recuperating in a local hospital at the time. We all then walked along the country lanes, with grandpa commenting on which insects were flying past, and which bird was calling out.
It was a lovely introduction to Nature for me...and I have continued to be entranced by nature, from the feelings given by my grandpa on these walks. Grandma was the authority on the wild fruits and flowers, which we also collected. Once at the picnic spot, which varied, but often included a view of farmland or woodland, we had home-made sandwiches and cups of tea.
It was great time for me, and my dog.
Have lovely weekend.
Bye for now.
