'Cowgirl hat', oils, 10 by 12 ins., canvas board.
'Two brother lions,' acrylics, 13 by 17 ins., paper.
1. Cowgirl hat.
Recent portrait to try out some glazing techniques with alkyd oils. I like alkyds better than normal oils as they dry quickly like acrylics and they have less of a turps odour. I also like their texture which is thick and dry, not all gooey runny as for normal oils.
This portrait had lots of problems along the way. I thought the angle of the head would be easy but it turned out that it gave me a headache with the angles of the features...not as easy as I first thought. Still it turned out reasonably like a human being so happy with that achievement.
2. Two brother lions.
This is a copy of a painting I did as a commission for a customer. No idea of the date as I forgot to record it....but probably pre-2004.
I dragged it our of hiding as I was thinking of doing some lion portraits soon.
Have a nice weekend.
