This is an imaginative-style female portrait, which was actually suggested by the textures and patterning on the background paper.
Half way through, I started to get interested in the effects of light....but as the subject was from imagination, I found I was rather lacking in knowledge about light, especially sunlight streaming in through a window...so perhaps I should do some research.
I also started to add in elements that suggested an interior such as the chair, lamp, and then the picture frame.
I think the heavily textured background might better suit abstract imagery, so I hope to try that approach later.
Also, this particular subject matter (girl reading by a sunlit window) might be best painted in a representational manner, using photos, or real life references.
It was indeed a learning process for me.
