Small monkey.

Small monkey.  In mixed media, charcoal.

This week, I was interested in sketching a lovely little critically endangered monkey- the cottontop tamarin- which lives in Columbia, South America.

It is kept as a pet in many countries because of its small size and cuteness.  Pet keeping may have helped reduce its numbers in the wild, but on the plus side, when the forests regenerate, the pets and zoo monkeys could be rehabilitated to their homeland.

They are very curious in behaviour, coming over to inspect any new object in their environment.  The dominant female in the group usually gives birth to twins; her hormones suppresses the breeding of other females in their group.

You can read more on Wikipedia.

I used photo references from 'unsplash' for these quick studies.  I hope to do more sketches before painting a composition, perhaps in acrylics.

Bye for now from primate land.

Bye from June.
