Not much art this week

Some small bits only.

'A gentleman caller', ATC.

'She shall have music wherever she goes', ATC.

Tag.

Susie says 'Hi!'

Very little art done this week due to an attack of food poisoning on Wednesday.  I was laid low for two days but I feel better today, although still shaky.

The tag and ATCs were done at the beginning of the week.

ATC

These were a simple matter of collaging some doodles from a few years ago onto some pre-coloured backgrounds.

This particular tag design was inspired from a youtube video  by  +Susanne Rose

Susie's news

Susie was supposed to go to the vet on Wednesday but since I was ill she didn't go.  I made an appointment for next week.

Hope you are all well.  Take care and have a good weekend.

Bye for now.

Two ATC's and a pink pet stroller

Some ATC's only for this week.

'Meerkats love bugs', ATC, Mixed media

'In the garden',  ATC, Mixed media

 Susie's pet stroller

Susie loves her stroller.

ATC's

Two ATCs using paper collage, e.g.,  text papers, also some pen drawing, and some stamping.

Who doesn't love those sociable little meerkats?

Who doesn't love a garden to sit or stroll about in?

Susie's news.

Talking of strolling, Susie has been out a couple of times in her new pet stroller, but only to the front porch and back.  I am waiting till her final boosters are due, next week,  to take her on a longer stroll to the vet.  The stroller is secure but I'll take the extra precaution of putting her in her basket and placing that in the stroller.

As you can see, the stroller is roomy inside, and has 2 leads for attaching to a pet harness or collar.

You could easily get a couple of cats, or 2 Yorkies, or one small dog in it.  Useful for transport.

Well that's all our news for this week.  I've been taking it easy and so no new larger art pieces to show.

Have a good weekend.
Bye for now.

Tried glossy accents varnish on tile

This week my new try was glossy accents varnish on a paper/card tile.

'Wonder', tile, 3.5 ins sq., with glossy accents varnish on top.

'Thinking of you', ATC.

'Birdie,' ATC.

'Caterpillar,' ATC.

Susie plays in the laundry basket.

Glossy accents on tiles.

I tried some glossy accents acrylic varnish this week.  It gives a thick enamel-like surface to the art project.  I used a small card tile to do some mixed media imagery to try it out. ( The mixed media I used was pan pastels for background colour plus stamped imagery on tissue paper.).  Then I added one layer of the glossy accents.

There are videos on Youtube on creating mixed media tiles if you are interested. See for example:-

In this project, I used a single card thickness, which gave a bit of curling to the edges, so next time I'd glue 2 paper tiles together for strength.  I'll probably glue another tile to the back of this one later. You can also use wooden tiles, ceramic tiles, etc, etc.

ATC

My ATCs were just to use up scraps of paper.  In 'Thinking of you', I used a bamboo pen which gave an interesting rough line to the girl's profile.

Susie

Susie went to vet for the first of her booster jabs this week.  She was calm and took it in her stride. (No scratching of the vet!!)

She slept all day yesterday though...but this morning was full of beans and played in the laundry basket!

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Bye for now...

Peace and other ATCs

Some of this week's ATCs.

 Peace

 You and me

 Girl with a bird

A4 background paper

Susie is watching TV...and 'Cat Ballou' is on screen!

1. ATC, Peace.  A response to the terrorism news today.

2. ATC, You and me.  Some little creatures 'found' on the background paint.

3.  ATC, Girl with a bird.    The girl is drawn on dry teabags which were collaged onto a watercolour background.  The flora is a stamped image.

I was keen to try using teabags after seeing PPF artist:- Irene Raphael's teabag art.  I like the effect of drawing on dry teabags...the tea stains the tissue paper with a beautiful brown colour...which complements the imagery.

4. Background page.  Trying out Posca pens for doodling while watching 'Bones' on TV.

Not sure what I will do with the background page, but as I am in some swaps, it may be flying off abroad.

Swapping ATCS

Some people have asked whether I swap my ATCs.  I often swap them.  The collection of my ATCs so far can be seen on my Pinterest board.

If you want to swap with me, please get in touch: by commenting or by email.

I think that's all for  now.

Dots and lines

Some dots and lines in art making this week.

Dots and lines, ATC, acrylics and posca pens.

Fossils, background page, A4, acrylics.

Gelli-deli collage, background page, A4.

Gelli print collage, background, A4.

 Sniffing the roses.

My news:

Dots and squiggley lines became my theme by chance this week.

I am in a UK swap on Facebook ...swapping A4 size background pages with other artists to use as journal pages, cut up for cards, make into ATC.s, or whatever.  The ones I have posted here are the most colourful pages.  I have also made some with quieter patterns and colours.

I will make a few more pages, send the quota off by the deadline, and keep the rest of the pages for my own art journalling, etc. So that's an ongoing project,

I find that making decorative background pages is quite relaxing; there is no specific imagery to consider and you can try out new materials and techniques in an intuitive, or even haphazard,  way.

Susie's news:

Susie seemed to love sniffing the flowers on the window ledge this week.

That's all from us for this week.

Have a great weekend!

Bye for now.

Glazing with acrylics

Some art projects from this week.

1. 'Not a featherweight,' ATC.

2.'Blue hibiscus', acrylic glazing, 10 by 14 ins. approx.

 3. Susie's achievement: top of the bookcase

4. Its great up here.

Hello everyone.  Its freezing cold here today and trying to snow!

My news: Photo 2:

I tried out some acrylic glazing for the portrait 'Blue hibiscus'.  The girl was inspired by a copyright-free photo on one of the Facebook groups I joined. I didn't get a good likeness here.  The glazing technique in this work was not a big success.

Luckily, I can see ways I could improve, for example,  by using stiffer brushes in the under-painting stage to give a rougher livelier effect.  I got a tad frustrated with the number of glazes needed to bring colour to the grey under-painting!

Susie's news: Photos 3 and 4

This week Susie managed to jump up onto the top of one of the bookcases in the computer area.  She used my desk to jump up.  She was looking pretty pleased with herself at the end of it.

I hope you have a great weekend...whatever the weather!

Bye for now.

Art

Some art from this week.

'Pharoah,' ATC.

'Air balloon', ATC.

'Side by side', art journal pages.

Washi tapes.

Susie in her igloo.

Susie in her igloo 2.

1. ATCs:-  The ATCs posted above were from a batch that had been started years ago and I am only now getting around to finishing them.... using Washi tapes mainly.

This week, I bought 12 new Washi tapes for £3 from the Works.  So that was a bit of a bargain price. Now to use them up!!

2. Art Journal:-  The text in the art journal reads as follows:

Side by side,
neatly composed like a picture,
with the banquet spread before them.
Spreading wings like basking turtles
at their prime.

3. Pet news:-  Susie loves her igloo nest which was originally bought for Toby, my yorkie dog (RIP), but he never used it.

4. Personal news:- I am not getting much done these days.  I need to figure out how to get back into picture-making, pictures for the wall.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Bye for now.
