Some watercolour figurative work.

 Watercolour.

'Two cats and a bear',  watercolours on paper, around 8 by 11 ins.

'The elf or fairy queen',  watercolours on paper, around A3.

'Naomi with a weaver bird', watercolours on paper, around A5.

1. 'Two cats and a bear'.

Painted from a small doodle of mine, using a mix of techniques, mainly wet on dry.

2. 'The elf or fairy queen'.

Mix of techniques, including wet on dry, and stencilling.  I used matt medium for stencils on the background to provide a bit of resist to the watercolour.

3. 'Naomi with a weaver bird'.

I tried a technique that was new for me, which was dry brush on wet alla prima.  The advantage is that it produces a well blended colour area quite easily.  The trick is to adhere the backside of your paper with water to an acetate/plastic sheet.   This prevents water-loss and so the edges of the different tones combine and blend.

Its gives a fairly classical look to a portrait.

There are so many ways to use watercolour....I find I am engrossed with this medium these days.

What is your favourite medium these days?

Have a happy weekend.

Enjoy Hallowe'en!!

I love each of your lovely paintings. Especially the last lady's skin looks very smooth. Interesting technique.
As I am selfmade painter I try to use easy medium. Last I bought colored pencils and like to work with them when get an inspiration🎃 have a happy time 😚

I love these! I like to hear how you made each one. I am a beginner with watercolor, but I love it. There is so much to do with it. I want to try watercolor on Yupo paper. My most familiar media would be acrylic, but I really do like much more about watercolor.
