Bird Mandala

Colour pencils on textured paper.

'Bird' mandala, colour pencils, paper, 9 ins sq., approx.

An experiment with colour pencil on textured watercolour paper.  I think I prefer smooth paper for making these designs.

I used a mixture of Polychromos and Luminance pencils.  Both quality artists colour pencils.

I don't use colour pencils much and I have yet to try out the various methods of applying colour (solid application versus layered) and blending colours (solvents, torchons, etc).  Looking forward to that!

I did this mandala on my lap tray watching TV and then listening to the radio.  Pencils are good for this.  But you could also use the new  +Winsor & Newton   watercolour pigment markers or maybe alcohol ink markers.

With the various combinations of medium and papers and mandala design...there are limitless possibilities for art work.

Have a lovely Sunday!

5 days of Mandalas

Here are the mandalas I've been working on this week.

'Mandalas',  pen and watercolours, around 8 ins diameter. sketchbook paper.

These are mandalas from the first 3 days of a course by +Julie Gibbons .

The course is called 5 days of Mandala magic and the link is below.

I'm glad I made time as making the mandalas is engrossing and Julie gives a good amount of historical background into symbols associated with mandalas.

I was particularly intrigued by mandalas where you put figures in the circle and hope to explore this more.

I will link to Show your face Friday also.

Bye for now.  Have a great weekend.
